Gold Dust Men: Westborough Looking For Scam Suspects
Two men allegedly sold counterfeit gold to victims for $306,000 in an elaborate scam that involved real gold, a safe and a bank transfer.
WESTBOROUGH, MA—Westborough police are looking to identify suspects who were allegedly involved in a recent scam in Westborough.
On Tuesday, July 17, three men met a white male and black male at the Extended Stay America hotel in Westborough to buy gold dust.
When the victims agreed that the purity was 93 percent and 22 karat, they agreed to buy a 10 kilogram package of the gold dust for $306,000. The sellers agreed to add another 5kg of gold dust with the payment due after the product was refined and re-sold.

The victims paid $26,000.00 in cash and transferred the remaining $280,000 into a Bank of America account. Upon showing proof of the money transfer, the victims received a locked Sentry safe with what they believed was 15kg of gold dust.
The suspects, “Jesse Obrien” and “Frank,” told the victims they would give them the combination to the safe after receiving confirmation from Bank of America that the $280,000 transfer was approved, said police.

On Thursday, July 19, after exchanging emails and receiving a combination that did not open the safe, the victims called a locksmith to open it. Inside was counterfeit gold.
