New Westborough Board Will Determine Future Of Golf Club Building
The former Civic Kitchen restaurant space will be a main focus for the committee. Civic Kitchen closed last year and won't reopen.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — The Westborough Select Board this week formed a new committee to determine the future of the golf club building, which was the former home of the Civic Kitchen and Drink restaurant.
The new Golf Club Building Use Committee will be tasked with sorting out what to do with a golf club building that has lost a longstanding tenant, and is in need of major repairs.
Civic Kitchen closed in October so the town — which owns the golf club building along Route 30 — could repair a plumbing problem in the basement. The closure was supposed to last about three months, but a larger assessment of the condition of the building found more major repairs to do.

The Westborough Select Board decided not go through with a bidding process that would've led to Civic Kitchen getting a new lease on March 1. That decision also effectively shut the restaurant down.
The new golf club committee will handle three key decisions and deliver recommendations to the select board by Oct. 1:

- Whether to make a "significant capital investment" in the golf club building, either renovations or new construction
- Identify the best use for the building, including whether a new restaurant should open there
- Consider if the building would be better used for recreational or community uses
The committee will be composed of one select board member, the town manager or her designee, either a recreation commission member or the recreation director, the Westborough Golf Club pro, one resident who is a member of the club and two residents who are not members of the club.
The select board will likely select committee members at the March 14 meeting. To apply, email a resume and cover letter to cdorr@town.westborough.ma.us, or mail to 34 West Main St., Westborough, 01581.
