New Traffic Pattern On I-495 Northbound Amid I-495/I-90 Interchange Project
It will remain in place through Spring 2026.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — There will be a traffic shift on I-495 Northbound beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
MassDOT announced that a new traffic pattern will be implemented on I-495 northbound between Exits 58 (I-90) and 59 (Route 9). The new traffic pattern will remain in place through Spring 2026.
- There will be a lane split around the new work zone. The right and middle lanes will pass on the right, while the left lane will pass on the left of the work zone.
Travel lanes on I-495 northbound will also be temporarily closed while the work zone is being set.

Meanwhile, the Fruit Street Bridge in Hopkinton/Westborough has reopened to two-way traffic, and the temporary traffic signal was removed.
The I-495/I-90 Interchange project will help alleviate traffic demands exceeding its capacity. The project will do the following:

- Replace the interchange
- Eliminate the old tooth booth and weaving areas
- Improve ramp spacing, acceleration and deceleration lanes
- Add an auxiliary lane from I-495 Northbound to Route 9
- New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 Northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street.
