Route 9 Speeding Stop Leads To Weapons Seizure In Westborough

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A Worcester man was arrested late Tuesday along Route 9 in Westborough after police found a gun and machete in his car.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police tracked a driver going about 20 mph above the speed limit along Turnpike Road, police said. When police pulled the driver over, an officer saw him reach for someone under the seat.

"These actions prompted the Officer to remove the operator from the vehicle where a firearm was recovered from under a floor mat," Westborough police said in a news release.

Police also found a machete in the car. The Worcester man was arrested on charges of possession of a gun without a license (third offense), carrying a dangerous weapon, being an armed career criminal and other gun violations. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail after an arraignment in Westborough on Wednesday, according to police.
