Westborough Awards May 2023 Employee Excellence Award

Karen Hutchinson, a Library Assistant at the Westborough Public Library, is an absolutely outstanding employee in the Children’s Department and on the Outreach Team. She has mentored new staff; assumed responsibilities for programs and created a welcoming space for Westborough’s littlest patrons during periods when we did not have a Children’s Librarian. Her warm, welcoming smile and caring demeanor put patrons at ease and make them feel like they are the “only” patrons in the department.

Karen has gone well above and beyond what is expected in her position. She leads the Outreach Team for weekly offsite visits to the Arrive apartment complex, where she coordinates dates and locations with the management, plans crafts and activities for the families, selects books and items to bring for checkout, and is one of the friendly staffers who residents encounter when they arrive. She has helped new Children’s Department staff learn procedures and software systems, and even stepped up to learn how to catalog books when new items came flooding in. She is a caring coworker and a true team player.

Karen’s passion and love for the library and the Westborough community shines like the sun every time she’s at work. The library is truly lucky to have Karen on our staff, and we believe she is truly deserving of the Employee Excellence Award.
