Carlisle Road's Cynosure Acquires Burlington Company

Carlisle Road-based Cynosure has been expanding over the past few years through the purchases of new technologies and subsidiary companies, and last month the cosmetic laser company added one more company to that list.

In a press release reported by the Wall Street Journal, Cynosure announced it had purchased Palomar Medical Technologies in a cash and stock transaction reported at approximately $287 million.

The release indicated that employees from the Palomar facility, located in Burlington, will be folded into the greater Cynosure family.

"Combining with Palomar brings together two world class research and development organizations creating what we believe is one of the world's premier aesthetic laser and light-based companies," said Michael Davin, Cynosure's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, in the release. "We believe the acquisition complements our product portfolio and customer base, provides new product and service revenues, strengthens our global distribution network, opens new cross-selling opportunities and enhances our intellectual property position.

Other new acquisitions over the past several years for Cynosure include purchasing of the PinPointe FootLaser system, as well as the California-based HOYA ConBio among others.
