Cupcakes Improve Health and Agriculture in Africa

Donated money raised to Africare.

WESTFORD,MA -- Could cupcakes be the cure for all world problems?

Three Westford Academy seniors who began Peace Love Cupcakes four years ago have done there part, one cupcake at a time, raising more than $28,000 to donate to Africare, a charity trying to improve health and agriculture in Africa, according to The Sun.

Lauren Flynn, Dorothy Goodwin and Olivia Overington, the three longtime friends who run the charity, traveled to Washington last week to present the check to leaders of Africare.

"We had spent so much time working toward that day, and suddenly it was happening," Overington told The Sun.
Africare will use the money to construct two new water wells with pumps and to rebuild four existing wells in Senegal. The group will also establish a system to monitor the water quality and give safety lessons to Senegalese locals.

In total, the project will likely help about 6,500 residents who had limited or no access to water.
