Local Library Hosts Talk on Narcan Administration, Trends in Drug Abuse

Members of the public are invited to the talk Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Chelmsford Public Library.

WESTFORD, MA - Do you feel like you understand the current trends in substance use? Do you know how to recognize signs your teen might be using? What if you come upon an overdose victim, do you know how to administer a potentially life-saving dose of Narcan?

These questions and more will be addressed Wednesday, Feb. 10 during a Chelmsford Board of Health speaker series talk at the Chelmsford Public Library. Jackie Hayes, health educator with the Chelmsford Board of Health, will discuss:

  • The current trends in substance use (alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, prescription drugs and others)
  • Signs that your adolescent may be using substances
  • Understanding how opioids work and what drugs are classified as opioids
  • Preventing, recognizing and responding to an opioid overdose
  • Understanding how to administer Narcan in an opioid overdose situation
  • Identifying resources for parents and professionals dealing with people with substance abuse disorder.

The talk takes place from 7-9 p.m. in the McCarthy Meeting Room.
