Nashoba Tech Board Selects New Superintendent (Again)

For the second time in as many weeks, the school committee of Nashoba Valley Technical High School District has named a new superintendent.

WESTFORD, MA - The school committee of the Nashoba Valley Technical High School District has tapped the current Nashoba Tech principal as the district’s next superintendent.

The Monday night decision to name Principal Denise Pigeon as the next superintendent came after the committee and its initial choice, Leo DeSimone, failed to reach a consensus on the contract.

According to the Lowell Sun, the vote for Pigeon was 13-1, with committee member Maria Karafelis of Chelmsford being the sole dissenting member of the board.

Karafelis told the committee she liked the way the other finalist, Carissa Karakaedos, assistant superintendent at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, ”carried herself” during her interviews.

DeSimone was named as the committee’s first choice from among three finalists, the other two being Pigeon and Karakaedos, on Jan. 20. His contract negotiations, however, fell through and the committee convened Monday to decide how to proceed with naming a replacement for the current superintendent, Judieth Klimkiewicz, who has announced her retirement.

Details of Pigeon’s contract are expected to be completed within the next 24-48 hours. Klimkiewicz had previously stated that she would remain in her position until a replacement was found; her precise retirement date has not been announced.
