New Alzheimer's Care Community Brings 50 Jobs to Westford

Bridges by Epoch opened earlier this month at the corner of Littleton and South Chelmsford roads, one of the first Alzheimer's specific assisted living communities of its kind.

For months, anyone driving down Littleton Road near Nashoba Tech has probably seen the construction. The construction will still continue there, only now it will be focused on constructing quality lives for those afflicted with Alzheimer’s.

Bridges, an assisted living community operated by EPOCH Senior Living, opened its doors earlier this month, becoming the first Alzheimer’s focused facility in the area, and only the second of the first of its kind in Massachusetts.

“I think this fills a huge need, and we’ve definitely gotten a warm exception,” says Maura Ferrigno, executive director of Bridges. “Our goal is to help those afflicted with Alzheimer’s maintain their independence and dignity in a safe environment.”

The facility itself consists of three “neighborhoods”, connected by a shared library, health facilities and other amenities including furniture built specifically for those with Alzheimer’s.

According to Ferrigno, the building will bring approximately 50 new jobs to Westford as well.

"We're excited to expand our Bridges community to Westford," said EPOCH Chief Executive Officer Larry Gerber. "There is a great need for specialized, quality memory care and services as the number of individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia grows."
