Westford Man Will Be Ordained As Priest This Weekend

Westford native Fr. Thomas MacDonald will celebrate his first mass in Peabody on Sunday, following ordination by Cardinal O'Malley in Boston on Saturday.

Westford native and Saint Catherine's parishioner Thomas MacDonald will be ordained on Saturday at 9 a.m. by Cardinal Sean O'Malley at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston.

He will join four other men into the priesthood following training at Rome's Pontifical North American College and schooling at UMass Amherst and Westford Academy.

“The priesthood is a gift from Christ. We are grateful for the generosity these men have given to the Lord’s call to service. They will join their brother priests, dedicated religious women and men and the faithful ministering in our parishes, working to build strong faith communities," said Cardinal O'Malley. "We pray that these newly ordained priests inspire the current generation of young men to consider the possibility of a vocation and, as they are called, to join those in formation at our seminaries.”

MacDonald will celebrate his first mass at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Beverly on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

More information on the ordination will be available in next week's edition of the Pilot, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Boston.
