On February 28, 2022 the School Committee held a regular online meeting in which they discussed COVID-19 Response, masks becoming optional in school buildings, the social studies department, the budget for next year, and other business.
Mitch Finnegan–Director of Health, Wellness, and Physical Education–also joined the meeting to speak to the unique value of physical education for all K-12 students including seniors. He explained why his department does not support the proposal to allow student-athletes to substitute extracurricular sports for physical education requirements their senior year. The school committee is expected to vote on the policy on March 7, 2022. If approved, it will be as a pilot program, with the intention to review program data after 1 or 2 years, to re-evaluate the policy going forward.
