Boston Police Officer Foils Man's Violent Carjacking Attempt
William James Maturo, 46, was arrested after police allegedly found him holding two victims hostage at gunpoint.

A Boston Police detective foiled one man’s alleged carjacking attempt and rescued two people from a dangerous situation following a violent struggle on Union Street Sunday night.
After receiving several calls detailing a suspect armed with a gun, officers were sent to the area of 66 Union Street around 8:20 p.m. After canvassing the neighborhood, a police detective observed 46-year-old William James Maturo standing next to a motor vehicle. Maturo allegedly had a firearm pointed at two victims.
The detective immediately unholstered his weapon, pointed it at the suspect and ordered to him to drop his firearm. According to police, the suspect refused and asked the detective to “shoot him.” The suspect finally dropped the weapon after several additional commands.

As the detective moved in to place the suspect in handcuffs, the man reached into the vehicle and pulled out a knife. Police say the suspect rushed at the detective. The two men landed on the ground and violent struggle ensued. Additional officers were called in to subdue the suspect.
After speaking with the two victims, officers learned that the suspect had forced them out of their two vehicles at gunpoint before the detective arrived and intervened. Officers recovered a folding knife with a black handle used to attack the detective, a firearm holster, and a black pellet handgun that had been altered to look like an authentic firearm.
