City of Boston loyalty to developers instead of taxpayers

We have seen a worsening of the quality of life in West Roxbury. It just got worse. Mayor Wu do residents & small businesses matter?

Residents of Redlands Road, neighboring small business owners and post Centre Street redesigned commuters are VERY CONCERNED about the proposed 30 unit apartment building at the 5 Redlands Road site.

Meeting notice: Wednesday, October 9th at 6 pm

Redlands Road is a steep, narrow, one-way road that is already used as a cut through road for folks trying to get away from the traffic on Centre Street. This is very concerning for us residents, who vary from elderly and disabled folks to families with young children. The traffic has increased greatly over the years due to all the take-out restaurants on Centre Street and most recently because of the grid lock at certain times of day on Centre Street due to it being reduced to one lane in each direction because of the bike lanes.

The 5 Redlands Road proposal includes an underground parking garage for 45 cars. The entrance to the garage is on Redlands Road which would feed the law abiding folks up Redlands Road and past all of our homes because it is a one-way street. The non-law abiding folks will turn left to get to Centre Street (which people using that small parking lot at the bottom of Redlands Road currently do) which creates traffic chaos and the potential for pedestrian and vehicular accidents.

Also- with 30 units being proposed, one can assume that most of these units will have 2 cars, creating the need for 60+ parking spaces. They are providing 45 spaces, so where will the other 15+ people park? This doesn't take into account any guests that they might have. Redlands Road is already densely populated because we have mostly 2 family homes. We already have lots and lots of cars. Parking is getting more and more challenging without adding more residents to the mix. Parking during the winter with ice and snow is a nightmare.

Developer made a vague statement that talks about Redlands Roa limitations . Does that mean she is in agreement with residents concerns?

“Larkin says it is "…being mindful to the chosen site proximity to several bus stops and commuter rail stations" and will encourage residents to walk, bicycle or take public transportation rather than constantly driving their cars up the relatively narrow and steep one-way Redlands Road.“

This project is way too big for this street and this neighborhood of steep and narrow one way streets. And why AREN’T any of the proposed units for low-income folks?! This project will greatly detract from and not add to the quality of life in this neighborhood! This project seems to be about making lots of money for the builder with 100% support and approval from people we voted for. We put our trust in all politicians who don’t appear to have no loyalty to us. Also, with businesses leaving Boston in large numbers, do we really want to support a for profit developer over struggling Mom and Pop business? Voting matters! Hopefully Boston voters will remember the politicians loyalty to their constituents, starting with Mayor Wu, in the next election!
