Edelweiss Village Assisted Living to Hold Memory Care Presentation

Dr. Jennifer Pilcher, a renown expert in Alzheimer's disease and dementia, will speak on Wednesday, March 15 at 3:30 PM in West Roxbury

Edelweiss Village Assisted Living will host a special presentation with Dr. Jennifer Pilcher, a highly respected expert in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and the founder of Clear Guidance. Entitled "Navigating the Transition: A Guide for Families Moving Loved Ones into Memory Care Assisted Living,” the session will include a Q&A as well as the opportunity to meet residents, families, and staff members. Jennifer Pilcher is the 2023 recipient of the President’s Award for Leadership and the Outstanding Chapter Member Award from the Aging Life Care Association.

According to Dr. Pilcher, there are key aspects families need to consider when transitioning a family member or friend into memory care living. She will address the specialized care environment, emphasizing safety and security, staff expertise, and the importance of individualized care plans.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Pilcher visit our campus and speak candidly about transitioning a loved one family member or friend to assisted living memory care living,” said Babacar Diop, CEO of Deutsches Altenheim. “Jennifer is an expert in navigating complex issues facing families transitioning into memory care assisted living.”

Edelweiss Village recently added 14 new memory care apartments to its campus. Designed by Form+Space to create a safe and comfortable environment, the new apartments incorporate contrasting colors, an abundance of natural light and a safe yet welcoming environment. Aberthaw Construction Company Inc., the firm that built Edelweiss Village 16 years ago, oversaw all the construction details. Memory support programming will focus on compassionate care, stimulating activities, and engaging technology. Edelweiss Village also offers 46 traditional studios, one and two-bedroom traditional assisted living apartments.

A Q & A will follow Dr. Pilcher’s remarks, along with refreshments and tours of the new space. The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is recommended as space is limited.
