German Centre Holds Touching Veterans Day Celebration to Honor
A beloved tradition since 2010, the 14th Annual Veterans Day Program at German Centre Skilled Nursing was a moving tribute to area veterans

Amidtst hearfelt speeches, residents, staff, families and community members came together to honor veterans. Keynote speakers Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley delivered warm and touching speeches, thanking the veterans for loyalty, bravery and love. Featured speakers included Commissioner Robert Santiago, Commissioner, Office of Veterans’ Services; State Senator Mike Rush; Boston Police Department Captain Warren Hoppie; Boston City Counselor Ben Weber; State Representative William MacGregor; Age Strong Commissioner of Boston Emily Shea; Commander Sergeant Major Michael Murphy.
The program began with an introduction from Deutsches Altenheim CEO Babacar Diop, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Haley Pilot School Music Teacher Grant Fischer. Reverend James Butler delivered the invocation and the National Anthem was sung by the Latonics, a cappella group with students from Roxbury Latin. The VFW Post 2902 performed Honor Guard Salute, led by Commander Sergeant Major Michael Murphy. Grant Fisher concluded the program by leading a heartfelt rendition of God Bless America.
After the ceremony, guests mingled at the renowned Wall of Honor, a pictorial and narrative exhibit of members of the Deutsches Altenheim community who served in the US Armed Forces.

Established in 1914, German Centre (formerly known as Deutsches Altenheim) was
originally designed to serve as a retirement residence for elderly German
immigrants. As German Centre expanded and flourished, the organization became a
cornerstone of the Greater Boston community. Today, the nonprofit, which
comprises German Centre Home for skilled nursing, Edelweiss Village for
assisted living and memory care, Schrafft Pavilion Memory Support Neighborhood,
and Senior Place Adult Day Health, consistently enjoys a 5-Star rating. The
