J.P. Licks to Add Two New Flavors, Free Sundae Contest in July

The Jamaica Plain location plans to churn out 1,300 gallons of ice cream and other treats this summer.

Ice cream fans, take note.

Two new flavors are coming to J.P. Licks locations this July: "Rocky-er Road" and "Root Beer Float."

The new flavors are set to be featured among returning classic ice cream flavors this summer, including Fresh Peach ice cream, Fresh Cucumber ice cream, Fresh Mojito sorbet and Raspberry Lime Rickey sorbet, according to J.P. Licks.

"We're excited to add Rocky-er Road to the list," said Vince Petryk, owner of J.P. Licks, in a statement on Tuesday. "It's Rocky-er. It has marshmallows, almonds and chocolate chunks. We took a classic and improved it."

Moreover, it took the local eatery about 25 years to turn the classic Root Beer Float into its own ice cream flavor. "The tricky part was getting it to taste like the melted ice cream after it mixes with the root beer," Petryk said.

The Jamaica Plain location of J.P. Licks, also the eatery's original location, plans to churn out more than 1,300 gallons of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, sherbet and dairy-free ice cream each day this summer.

Each tub of flavors is made on one of six batch freezers, which turns the liquid ice cream and ingredients into frozen treats. Once the ice cream mix is poured into tubs, it takes about a day to freeze in a blast freezer before being distributed to the company's 13 locations.

July is also designated as National Ice Cream Month, and to celebrate, J.P. Licks is giving away one free medium-sized sundae every day throughout the month. For more details, click here.
