Mayor Menino and Special Guests Read to West Roxbury School Children

Mayor Thomas M. Menino is the voice behind ReadBoston, a nonprofit children's literacy program he founded.

Boston celebrities taught children the importance of reading today as West Roxbury students at the Kilmer Lower School were treated to a special read-a-thon with guest readers Mayor Menino; Jeff Kinney, the author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Lisa Hughes of WBZ; Bob Sweeney of the Boston Bruins; Beth Teitell of the Boston Globe; Jack Remondi of Reading is Fundamental National Board Chair; District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley; and others.  There was also a special appearance by the LORAX.

 Through ReadBoston's partnership with Reading is Fundamental, children in 50 Boston schools will receive three new books.
