Westwood, Norwood Days Celebrations Canceled Amid Coronavirus

Westwood Day and Norwood Day have both been canceled, officials cited concerns of the possible spread of the coronavirus.

WESTWOOD, MA — Even though it's not until September, Westwood Day was canceled amid concerns about the potential spread of the coronavirus. The Westwood Recreation Department announced the cancellation on July 2.

Westwood isn't the only community being cautious about its resident's safety — Norwood also canceled its annual Norwood Day event. The Norwood Recreation Department announced the cancellation on July 1, citing similar concerns. The two events are popular among residents and known to draw large crowds.

Norwood Recreation officials estimated the event brings out 13-15,000 people and said of that kind of crowd in the middle of a global pandemic "it’s just not safe." The department said it will try to offer fireworks in October or November to celebrate on a smaller scale.
