Same Weymouth Midwife Who Delivered Parents Delivers Their Baby

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Weymouth couple hired the same midwife to deliver their baby that both their parents used over two decades ago.

Both Katherine Powers and Chris Sylvester's parents were patients of Nannette Landry, a certified nurse-midwife for South Shore Health, WCVB first reported. Then when it came time to deliver Powers and Sylvester's baby, they knew exactly who they wanted to help.

"I was there when they were born. I cared for them in their pregnancy, so it's like the circle of life. It's just so special," Landry told WCVB.

Just as she had helped both their mothers 25 and 26 years ago, Landry was there to help Powers and Sylvester as they welcomed their baby boy at South Shore Hospital in late February.

This second-generation birth was a first for Landry, who the hospital says has more than 35 years of experience under her belt from when she started at South Shore Health's first midwife practice in 1987.

"It's personalized care. I think word of mouth: Many patients come hearing the birth stories from other women," Landry told WCVB. "There are more midwives. So in the beginning, in 1987, I was the only midwife. Now there are 17."

"We thank Nannette for providing wonderful, compassionate care that has had such a profound impact on three generations," South Shore Health said in a statement. "Welcome to the world Finn!"

Once the only midwife at South Shore Hospital, Nannett Landry delivered countless babies - last month she delivered a second generation.
