Candidate Statement: Jennifer Spear, School Committee

The Candidate Statement of Jennifer Spear, candidate for School Committee.

Platform:
I’m running for school committee because I believe that the Wilmington schools need the perspective of someone who is both a trained educator and parent. I am a trained and certified educator from birth to 6th grade; having received my Associates from Middlesex Community College and my Bachelors from Merrimack College. Currently I serve students and their families every day as the Center Director of an early learning program here in town. I also guide my four children through their academic times. My oldest attends the Middle School, I have one in her last year at the North Intermediate, my special needs child currently attends a collaborative SPED program out of district with the plans to return to Wilmington at the West this fall, and the newest addition to our family is just over one year.

As a member of the School Committee, I want to be a part of continuing to create an environment in Wilmington that is inviting for all the children in town. Moving Wilmington towards education of the 21st century has been a goal of the committee for some time now and I will do my part to research and develop a plan to help the schools be successful in this mission.

As a member of the Wilmington community, I also believe that the people must be heard. Our students will thrive based largely on the support of their families and the community they live in. I will do what I can to allow for constructive input from the people of the town and to help the schools create good citizens while instilling a sense of philanthropy in the students here.

In conclusion, Wilmington is known as a school district for others to follow (that’s why I moved here) and I want to be a part of that reputation and part of the reason why it continues to be true.
