The Crafting Closet Opens Saturday in Wilmington
The new store is open to anyone looking to learn a new skill or just socialize, as well as offering classes, supplies and finished products.
WILMINGTON, MA - They say you are most successful doing what you love and for Nancy Zimmer, the upcoming opening of Wilmington’s newest business will do just that and awaken the crafter in each of us.
The Crafting Closet officially opens this weekend on Saturday, March 5 at 1 Church St., #103 with it’s grand opening.
Nancy Zimmer, owner of the Crafting Closet, says she’s been crafty her whole life; always needing to do something with her hands.

“I can spend hours in a crafting shop (and do, quite often) just wandering around,” Zimmer says. “After one such session, I came home and told my husband that Wilmington needed a crafting shop. He said, ‘Okay - let’s do it’ ... and here we are!”
Zimmer’s always wanted to open a business, just which business was the question.

“In my head, I’ve always wanted to open a book store or a movie store,” she says. “As I said before, I’ve always been crafty. And I just recently started to sell my creations. I suppose opening a store based on what I love to do and am doing anyway just made sense.”
Zimmer hopes the Crafting Closet will be a place Wilmington crafters can come to hang out and find what they are looking for whether that’s supplies, finished products, learning a new skill or just socializing with other crafters.
Additionally, being a Wilmington resident, Zimmer wants to give back to the community.
“I have visions of giving back to the community by hosting craft-along sessions and making blankets or hats or whatever is needed for various charities,” she says, adding that she’s still working out the details.
The Crafting Closet is offering everything from crochet classes to knitting, sewing, quilting and book folding. Most will be offered to both children and adults.
Zimmer plans to keep her customers and future customers updated on what classes are being offered on her Facebook page, while her website is still under construction.
Zimmer is also offering space for local crafters to consign their finished projects inside the Crafting Closet.
“I already have a list of interested crafters, and I’m open to more,” she says. “And even though I will have multiple consignors, I will also strive to ensure that similar items are not displayed at the same time.”
On the retail side of things customers will be able to find yarn, fabric and some cross-stitch items at the Crafting Closet. But if they don’t have what you’re looking for don’t worry -- Zimmer says she can get it for you. The store will also play host to finished, handmade products from the local crafters (including items Zimmer has personally created).
