How Do I Get Rid Of My Old, Broken Refrigerator?

Question: I'm trying to clean out my garage and I've got a big, second refrigerator that I need to get rid of. It doesn't work anymore so I can't sell it. Do I have to take it to a dump?

Answer: Good news, you do not have to borrow your pal's pickup truck and haul that refrigerator to a dump.

The town's curbside pickup service covers this. Refrigerators are what is called "White Goods." This does NOT mean your refrigerator must be white to be picked up. In fact, it would be better to get rid of as many of those awful pea-green refrigerators as possible ... but I digress.

Here is the information on "White Goods" as provided by the Town Web Site.

• Major appliances are collected on Fridays. Residents must purchase a $10 sticker from the Collector's Office at Town Hall to be placed on the pick-up list before 11:00am on Thursday for next day pickup.
• Remove doors.
• DO NOT remove freon.
