NORTH WILMINGTON, MA — The North Wilmington Commuter Rail Station will be closed and service will be suspended for a 58-day period starting next month.

The station will be closed from Sept. 9 to Nov. 5.

The shutdown is to allow for the installation of Automatic Train Control, part of the larger Positive Train Control signaling system mandated by the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008, according to a statement from the Town of Wilmington. The system upgrade is intended to improve both safety and service reliability.
