Relay for Life to Feature 'Caregivers Garden' Honoring Loved Ones Supporting Cancer Patients
This year's event is scheduled for Friday night starting at 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of Wilmington Middle School.
When cancer strikes, many people are involved in supporting the person impacted by the disease. At this year's Relay for Life, one group of those people will be honored.
Wilmington's Relay for Life will feature a new touch this year with a Caregivers Garden, honoring those who support cancer patients through their battle with the disease.
The organization said in its announcement that the Caregivers Garden will pay tribute to the people giving home care, medical professionals from hospitals, or friends who serve as a listening ear when needed. The garden will provide a way for Relay for Life participants to say thank you to these critical people.
Relay for Life is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 5:30 p.m. It will take place at Wilmington Middle School with music, food, dancing, and games for all ages in addition to the overnight walk that aims to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

“One if the things that American Cancer Society does so well is provide programs to everyone affected by cancer, including specific services for families and other caregivers,” said Kaitlyn Riley, the Chairperson of the Relay For Life of Wilmington. “The Garden will give the survivors at Relay the chance to thank the people who helped them through their journey the most.”
