This unusual, yet ancient, breed of dog garnered a good bit of attention at the Wilmington Easter Egg Hunt on the Town Common Saturday.

If there was a creature gaining nearly as much attention as the Easter Bunny during the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Wilmington Town Common on Saturday, it was a friendly canine with very unusual coat.

The playful pup was a six-year-old Puli named "Ziggy."

The Puli is an ancient breed of herding dog with a corded coat (that looks rastafarian or dreadlocked), which makes it nearly waterproof, according to the AKC.

The breed is traced back 1,000 years to the hills of Hungary, where it helped shepherds with their flocks. But it's roots can actually be traced back 2,000 years to Asia.

As for Ziggy (as in Ziggy Marley), he was more interested in making new friends than herding.
