Wilmington Board Of Appeals Okays 108 Unit Jefferson Rd Project

Twenty percent of the four-story project's 108 units would be affordable under 40B requirements.

WILMINGTON, MA — A comprehensive permit for a 108-unit property at Jefferson Road and Middlesex Ave was approved by the Wilmington Board of Appeals, Wednesday.

The projected was approved under the state's Chapter 40B affordable housing law, with the Board of Appeals sitting as multiple town permitting authorities and covering all local requirements.

Twenty percent of units will be affordable in the four-story Princeton Development project.

The Board approved the project unanimously, after months of hearings before various town bodies and feedback from the town's attorney and planning department.

The state is providing $2.5 million in funding for a culvert and sewer line project in connection with the development, and the developer is committing $250,000 for the North Wilmington fire substation.

Town Manager Jeffrey Hull noted that the project will help the town stay above the 10 percent affordable threshold that gives the town authority over affordable projects. With the 2020 census, the town is at risk at falling below that mark.
