Wilmington to Finally Get a Dog Park
The park is expected to open in the summer of 2016.

WILMINGTON, MA - Dog owners rejoice! Wilmington will finally have a dog park come summer.
The discussion of a dog park opening this year in town was part of Town Manager Jeffrey Hull’s budget presentation to selectmen Monday night.
The one-half-acre park would be constructed adjacent to Town Park and include a fenced in area for dogs off leash and is estimated to cost $35,000, Hull said in his presentation. Town Park is located at 775 Main St. (Rte. 38).

A dog park has been something residents have been vocal about for quite some time now. During the Yentile Farm project design project, the Committee and Selectman Judy O’Connell conducted a significant amount of public outreach to gather information from residents to find out what recreational options they wanted in the new facility. A dog park garnered significant support during those discussions.
After it was determined that a dog park would be incompatible with other components of the Yentile project, officials started looking for an alternate site.

The cost to construct the new dog park is estimated at $35,000 and will be funded from the Recreation Revolving fund.
Hull says in his report that the Recreation Commission is presently researching dog parks in other communities and will be developing rules for this pet park.
The park is expected to open in the summer of 2016.
