Wilmington Library Sponsoring Inaugural Tiny Art Show

Work must be created on a 3-inch by 3-inch canvas or as a similarly tiny 3D object. Art will be on display from Sept. 26 to Oct. 8.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Memorial Library is sponsoring its inaugural Tiny Art Show in the coming weeks, and organizers are encouraging participants of all ages to submit their work.

The artwork —submitted on 3-inch by 3-inch canvasses or as 3-inch by 3-inch by 3-inch 3D objects —will be displayed at the library, located at 175 Middlesex Ave., from Sept. 26 to Oct. 8. At 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, the library will host a reception for participants and the community. Organizers said teeny tiny treats will be served.

"We are thrilled to bring this creative, unique program to our library," Danielle Masterson, assistant director of the Wilmington Memorial Library, told Patch. "We think patrons will love being able to create a tiny masterpiece, as well as seeing all the other participants' creations. We are hoping that this event will bring the community together and give everyone a chance to unplug and work with their right brains."

Masterson said the program is facilitated by the library's Youth Services, but is open to all ages.

Registration remains open for the show, though there currently is a waitlist for one of the 150 3-inch by 3-inch canvasses.

The canvasses can be picked up in the library's Children's Room beginning on Saturday, and must be picked up by Sept 17.

Participants can drop off finished work for display from Sept. 17 -24. When dropping off their artwork, participants are asked to fill out a Google Submission Form to ensure their work is properly labeled.

Organizers said people unable to get one of the library-provided canvasses can still participate in the show.

"Even if someone doesn't receive a canvas from us, they can still submit their own tiny canvas or other pieces of artwork (3-inch by 3-inch by 3-inch), it would be greatly appreciated. We'd love to have as many tiny creations as possible!" Amy Caira, the assistant children's librarian, told Patch.

Caira added: "We're all so excited to see it all on display!"
