Wilmington Man Charged Following Multiple Crashes In Woburn
A 27-year-old Wilmington man was charged with multiple gun-, drug- and driving-related charges following two June 28 crashes in Woburn.

WOBURN, MA — A 27-year-old Wilmington man faces nearly 20 drug-, gun- and driving-related charges following multiple June 28 crashes in Woburn.
State Trooper Gregory Gough responded around 9:30 p.m. that night to a crash on Interstate 93 Southbound in Woburn. He found that a vehicle had been rear-ended and the other driver had fled the scene, state police said in a news release.
As Gough was investigating and securing the scene, he heard on the police radio about another crash down the road, "involving a vehicle matching the description provided by the operator and witness he had been speaking to which had caused the first crash."

Gough went to the second crash and spoke to state Trooper Matthew McDormett, who said witnesses reported a "red SUV approaching the slow-moving traffic weaving in and out of lanes, until it careened into the rear of a Toyota, causing a chain reaction involving multiple other vehicles and several injuries"
The driver of the red SUV tried to continue driving but was forced to stop by damage to the vehicle, the police said.

The red SUV was driven by Kelly Carter, 27 of Wilmington.
Carter was treated by McDormett and Woburn EMS for an injury to his leg.
"While EMS was stabilizing Carter, Trooper McDermott saw in plain view a black handgun on the passenger floorboard of Carter's red SUV," according to the news release. "Prior to Carter's transport to Massachusetts General Hospital, Troopers were able to determine Carter was under the influence of narcotic drugs and did not possess a license to carry firearms."
Gough examined Carter's SUV and "found indications of damage that could only have been caused by the first crash he initially was called to," police said.
Police searched Carter's vehicle and found, in addition to the black handgun, a machete, "a baggie of white powder appearing to be powdered cocaine," digital scales, a rifle "with an obliterated serial number," hundreds of individually-packaged marijuana edibles, jars of THC oil and ammunition for both guns.
Carter was due to be arraigned in Woburn District Court on the following charges:
- "Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm;

- Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm;
- Possession of a Firearm Without FID Card;
