Wilmington Residents Prepare for Family Day on Fourth of July

A host of events are scheduled for Friday at Town Common and Shriners Auditorium.

Editor's Note: The Fourth of July Committee announced on Friday morning that the carnival is cancelled for Friday and will resume on Saturday at 12 p.m.

If the weather cooperates, there will be plenty of fun to be had on Friday as the town holds its annual Family Day on the Fourth of July.

The day is scheduled to kick off from 7-10 a.m. with the Knights of Columbus breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, cornbread, juice and coffee at a cost of $5. This event was initially scheduled for Town Common, but instead will be held inside Knights of Columbus Hall.

Weather permitting, Travel'n DJ Sounds will play music from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the doll carriage and bike parade is slated for 8:30 a.m.

Opening ceremonies kick things off officially at 9:15 a.m., wiffleballers hit the field at 9:30 a.m., and the limbo contest kicks off at the same time.

The baby crawl race for children 12 months and under begins at 10 a.m., as does the family entertainer and freeze dance. Tug of war begins at 11 a.m., the bucket brigade gets rolling at 11:30 a.m., and the water balloon toss starts at 12 p.m.

At 12:30 p.m., events conclude at Town Common and continue at Shriners Auditorium.

That's where from 12-5 p.m. the carnival special takes place with unlimited rides for $10. The carnival runs at regular price from 5-11 p.m.

Wilmington Jr. Camps holds dinner for $8 from 6-7:30 p.m., serving up a dinner that includes chicken parmesan.

From 6-9:30 p.m. Run Johnny Run will entertain residents with a musical performance.

Wilmington's Fourth of July festivities wrap up on Saturday with a day of activities that concludes with spectacular fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at Shriners.
