Wilmington Wildwood School Building Committee Update

Site Selected for the New PreK-5 School

On October 8, 2024, the Wildwood School Building Committee (WSBC) selected a site for the new PreK-5 school in Wilmington, MA. The site, known as the North Intermediate School site, is the WSBC’s preferred option to enter into the next phase with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).

The selected option for the new PreK-5 school will be approximately 163,000 sf housing 755 students plus PreK and it includes a 12,000 square foot gymnasium.

A Preferred Schematic Report has been submitted to the MSBA and the project team will be advancing into the Schematic Design phase. The WSBC will continue to meet regularly to provide design input and project oversight.

Wilmington’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Glenn Brand, commented on the decision:

“Some of the things I have heard since first joining Wilmington were the many challenges our staff, students and families face in making so many transitions in our small elementary schools on their educational journey. As an educator, I am thrilled that our community and the members of the building committee, have taken the initial steps to address these concerns through the decision to move forward with school consolidation.”

“Not only will a new PK-Grade 5 elementary school project take care of these concerns, but immediately bring online a modern educational facility that will bring much needed improvements to the physical conditions for the Wildwood, Woburn Street and North Intermediate school communities.”
