Winchester Residents Drop Bid to Recall School Committee Members

The recall effort was brought about after former high school principal Sean Kiley was relieved of his duties.

After learning former Winchester High School principal Sean Kiley had been let go, parents and residents teamed up in support of Kiley, calling on five members of the school committee to resign for not intervening with the decision.

That recall effort has since been ended, according to David Errico, one resident who had helped lead the movement.

The effort is “not being pursued at this time because of the fact that [Kiley] was bought out by the School Committee,” Errico told The Boston Globe.

The effort to recall the school committee members was initiated after Superintendent Judith Evans sent out an email stating Kiley had resigned earlier this summer.

Kiley publicly stated on his principal’s blog that he had not resigned. Students and parents sprung into action, immediately asking officials to retain him.

Lynch Elementary School’s principal Christine Kelley was named Kiley’s replacement earlier this month.
