Five Police Incidents That Had Woburn Talking

These five stories and  entries had people talking on our Facebook page and readers clicking links this week.

 

July 29—At 7:19 p.m., a 45-year-old Woburn man was placed in protective custody after police received a report of a male party passed out in a Locust Street building stairwell. Police arrived and reported finding the man, completely naked, lying on the stairs. When police asked the man what the problem was, the man reportedly responded, “You are the [expletive] problem.” Police determined the man should be placed in protective custody due to his intoxicated nature and handcuffed the man. The man put his pants on and was taken to the station. Police reported the man continued to verbally abuse officers, calling them “[expletive] pigs” and telling them to “[expletive] off.”

 

July 31—With  the governor made a decision at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

"I will sign this bill," he said.

Melissa's Bill, named for Melissa Gosule who was killed by a violent repeat offender who was out on parole, has been in the works for years. But it was  that spurred more support for the bill.

 

July 31—At 7:46 p.m., a Woburn firefighter called police and requested assistance at the Main/Hudson streets fire station. According to police, firefighters were tending to a citizen who walked to the station and said he had been “jumped” by three male parties along the train tracks behind Walgreens. The man told police the three men were living on the tracks and assaulted him, throwing punches and dragging him to the ground. One of the men pulled the other two off of the victim, who ran to the fire station for help. Police found the three men, who said that the victim had stopped to talk to them and has hung out with them before. The victim and one of the men got into an argument and began fighting, said witnesses. Police said all of the men involved were under the influence of alcohol. Police asked the men who were living on the tracks to move along, and also sent the victim home.  
  

Aug. 1—After leading area police departments on a search through the woods in Stoneham, a Salem man was arrested early Wednesday morning in the area of Route 93 southbound near the Route 128 northbound ramp, according to a State Police spokesperson.

 

Aug. 2—At 6:40 p.m., a Woburn man reported he transferred $195,000 to an acquaintance in California for a business deal in September of last year. According to police, the man never heard back from the California man. Police advised the man to send a certified letter to the acquaintance that he wanted his money back and to also pursue the matter in court.
