Frankly Speaking, It's National Hot Dog Day
Fans celebrate, and businesses are knocking down prices. Plus, Kayem names 'Laser Dog' winner of the 'Create the Fenway Frank' contest.

Well, butter your buns! It’s National Hot Dog Day on Thursday, July 23.
What that means for some is dressing up in hot dog outfits, or participating in hot dog cook-offs. But for most, it means taking advantage of deals on dogs.

The president of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (yes, there is such a thing), confirmed to NBC News that National Hot Dog Day was technically Wednesady, but since it was held on July 23 one year, “everyone thinks it’s on that date.”
So much so that national retailers such as 7-Eleven and Sonic are offering deals on hot dogs.

Kayem, which is the official frank and sausage of the Boston Red Sox, announced the winner of its third annual “Create the Next Fenway Frank” contest. Mike Brown from Worcester, MA, won, with his “Laser Dog.”
This winning recipe will now be sold at Fenway Park for the rest of the season, and at participating Ninety Nine Restaurants through Labor Day. What’s the Laser Dog? It’s a Fenway Frank in a New England style bun layered with refried beans, topped with spicy guacamole, tortilla chips and salsa.
“In honor of Dustin Pedroia and his hard-nosed, gritty play, the Laser Dog pays tribute to our second baseman,” Brown said in a statement. “You’d be hard-pressed to find a game without Dustin’s uniform dirty and worn from leaving it all out on the field. The dirtier your shirt gets from eating the Laser Dog, the better!”
Kayem’s hosting events at the Ninety Nine Restaurants in Somerville and Billerica, starting at 5 p.m. on July 23.
Ninety Nine, which has its home office in Woburn, has two Ninety Nine locations in the city at 194 Cambridge Road and 291 Mishawum Road, both of which are Ninety Nine To Go locations.
“Mike is a true Red Sox fan, and he took that passion to the kitchen in creating the Laser Dog in honor of Dustin Pedroia,” said Kayem Senior Brand Manager Tony Wrubel in a statement. “We congratulate Mike and commend all of the entrants in this year’s contest. The recipes get better and better every year, and we’re excited for the Laser Dog to debut on the menu at Ninety Nine restaurants tonight and at Fenway on Monday.”
