Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Woburn

A Woburn man has been charged in connection with the death Thursday night of a 70-year-old Woburn man.

WOBURN, MA — A Woburn man was charged in connection with the pedestrian crash that killed another Woburn resident Thursday night, officials said Monday.

Elmer Coreas, 57 of Woburn, was charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Woburn police were sent to Montvale Avenue, near Everett Street, for a reported hit and run crash involving a pedestrian.

John McGuinness, 70 of Woburn, was found and taken to Lahey Hospital, where he died.

"Woburn Police were able to identify fluids from the suspect motor vehicle which they were able to follow back to an apartment building on Montvale Avenue where they located a maroon Honda Pilot with heavy front end damage," officials said. "Police subsequently located the owner of the vehicle, who allegedly was operating it at the time of the crash."

The investigation is ongoing. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Woburn and state police are investigating. Additional charges are possible.

Coreas will be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Monday.

All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
