POLICE LOG: Driver Avoids One Crash, Causes Other

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Aug. 1 – At 6:25 p.m., police were called to Sylvan Road near Pearl Street for a two-car accident. According to police, one driver looked up and saw that the car in front of her was stopped to turn. To avoid a collision, the woman swerved, but crossed the double-yellow line and struck the car in the other lane. There were no reported injuries in the head-on crash.

Aug. 1 –

At 11:56 a.m., police responded to a three-car accident on Main Street near Francis Street. According to police, one car stopped short, causing a chain reaction.

At 12:41 p.m., a Prospect Street resident reported her car was spray-painted with blue paint while parked in her assigned spot. Police reported the car had paint on its front bumper, hood, A post and windshield. There were no other damaged items in the area.

At 2:26 p.m., Jonathan David Fernandes, 37, of 2430 Achushnet Ave. in New Bedford, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250. According to police, Fernandes was taken into custody after being found with three pairs of Dockers pants and four golf shirts. Police also collected video surveillance at the scene.  

At 3:59 p.m., a police officer walking a beat downtown observed three youths near the rear door of Dunkin’ Donuts. The officer advised one of the youths, who was known to be on ‘house arrest’ that he needed to either go home or his father would have to stay with him and the youths. The teen went home. Police notified the teen’s probation officer.

At 4:01 p.m., police were dispatched to a two-car accident on Mishawum Road at Commerce Way. According to police, one driver admitted that he did not have a green arrow to turn and was at fault.

At 5:28 p.m., a Citizens Bank employee reported his corporate credit card was activated and used fraudulently. According to police, the card was used without the man’s permission in Woburn and Burlington.

At 5:38 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Presidential Way. According to police, one car crossed the double-yellow line and hit another car head on. The driver told police he skidded on wet pavement.

At 5:50 p.m., a Ridgewood Lane resident reported a previous break-in. According to police, a laptop computer, wireless keyboard, iPod, camera and several pieces of jewelry were taken.

At 6:06 p.m., a Woburn man reported he lost his credit card in May and it was used fraudulently for over $1,500 in charges.

At 7:21 p.m., a Woburn woman reported her unlocked car entered and $3 in quarters stolen. The woman told police she accidentally left the car unlocked when she was bringing in groceries and letting her dogs out. No other items were taken, reported police.
