POLICE LOG: Masked Man Swipes Purse

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

July 3 – At 4:34 p.m., a woman reported her purse was stolen by a masked man on Creston Avenue. According to police, the woman said she was sitting in a friend’s backyard when a tall and thin man wearing a mask ran into the yard, grabbed her purse and fled. A witness told police that she saw the man get into the back seat of a vehicle parked on Maple Avenue.

July 2 –

At 1:57 p.m., a Woburn man reported he was assaulted while vacationing in India. The man told police the suspects threatened to “finish the job” in the United States. Police advised the man to call 911 immediately if the suspects appear in the U.S. and to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the incident.

July 3 –

At 8:30 a.m., Roque Pena, Jr., 46, of 784R Mass Ave. in Boston, was arrested and charged on a warrant. Pena was taken into custody during routine traffic patrol on Campbell Street.

At 1:19 p.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted party on Westview Terrace. According to police, a man was in the yard and wanted to speak to the resident. The man fled the area on foot when police arrived, reported officers. When police found the man, he said he just wanted to talk to the resident. Police advised the man that she did not want to talk to him and drove him to an area bus stop.

At 3:32 p.m., a Woburn man reported a check fraudulently written and cashed from his bank account. Police spoke with the company that received the money, but spoke to an “uncooperative” telephone operator.

At 4:30 p.m., a Medford man reported his car was struck while parked in the Polcari’s parking lot. Police observed minor damage to the vehicle.

At 5:04 p.m., a bicyclist was struck on Montvale Avenue as a driver attempted to turn into the Wendy’s parking lot. According to police, the driver said she had a turn signal and did not see the cyclist. The victim suffered minor injuries to his hand, elbows and legs and was treated on scene.

At 9:34 p.m., a Thornton Street man reported his home was egged. According to police, remnants of an egg were found on the kitchen window and the driveway. The window screen was damaged, said police.

July 4 –

At 12:14 p.m., police received a report of a problem at the King Gas station at 529 Main St. According to police, a customer claimed that he did not receive any gas, but was asked to pay $22. Police spoke to the man, as well as the owner of King Gas, and advised them that it is a civil issue.

At 6:38 p.m., police conducted a well-being check of a 15-year-old at the Anderson train station. According to police, the teen was attempting to board a train to Maine, but was not allowed to because he did not have the proper paperwork as a minor traveling without an adult. Police called the teen’s parents, who picked him up at the station.

At 6:42 p.m., Robert W. Stocker, 53, of 95A Waltham St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery (domestic). According to police, Stocker was taken into custody and booked at the request of the Boston Police for an incident in their jurisdiction.

At 7:25 p.m., a caller reported a man and woman fighting outside the Salem Five Bank on Main Street. According to police, the couple told officers they were verbally arguing over “family [expletive].”

At 10:12 p.m., police responded to a Foster Avenue home for a report of a verbal argument that got physical. According to police, the physical nature of the argument appeared accidental. Both parties agreed to stay away from each other for the rest of the night.

July 5 –

At 5:38 a.m., police were called to a Crane’s Court business for a report of theft. According to police, 40 batteries were stolen from a machine. Each battery was valued at $150, said police.
