POLICE LOG: Resident Reports Someone Filed 2012 Tax Returns Under Her Name

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

March 4-

At 4:15 p.m. a party came to the lobby of the police station to report identify theft. The woman said her identify was compromised by a false filing of her 2012 income tax returns. She said she received a notice from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and the IRS stated her tax return was being reviewed due to possible inaccuracies. She notified the agencies that she had not yet filed her 2012 income taxes and was informed somebody had filed under her name through TurboTax.

Police provided her with a victim’s witness sheet with the incident report number.

Other Incidents

March 4-

At 4:54 p.m. a party came to the station to report being the victim of identify fraud. The woman told police she had received a call from her credit card company on March 2 about a purchase for $57.12 at a Walmart in Fresno, CA. She explained that she did not make the purchase and they shut down her account.

At 5:20 p.m. police responded to an Arlington Road residence on a call of harassment. Caller stated she had been receiving a substantial amount of phone calls from a telemarketer. When she asked one of the telemarketers where they got her information he stated it was from a company named All Web Leads. The caller said she spoke to a representative from the company who said someone must have filled out a survey with her information. He could not provide her the IP address of who it was because she was not law enforcement.
