Woburn Compounding Center Recalls Drug After Regulators Found 'Foreign Matter' in Vials

Pallimed Solutions, Inc. has voluntarily recalled products after after regulators found "foreign matter" in vials of drugs.

A Woburn compounding pharmacy has voluntarily recalled over a dozen products after regulators found "foreign matter" in vials of drugs used for injections.

Boston.com reported Monday that Pallimed Solutions, Inc. was ordered on March 22 by the state board that regulates compounding pharmacies to stop producing drugs that were supposed to be made in a sterile process and to quarantine the products in its possession.

The drugs in question had been made and distributed since Jan. 1 of this year. They are products used for erectile dysfunction, hormone replacement therapy and eye treatments.

Though the recall was made at the request of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health it is considered voluntary, Boston.com reports.

This recall does not apply to non-sterile compound products or any other products dispensed by Pallimed, the pharmacy stated in a release on its web site.

There have not been any reported cases of anyone getting sick or injured by using any of the products in question, Boston.com reports, based on statements from the state and from the company.

"Please note that we have no indication that any product made by Pallimed is unsafe or that any recalled product has been contaminated," the Pallimed release states. "To date, no injuries or illnesses have  been reported.  Pallimed is undertaking this aggressive precautionary recall measure in an abundance of caution to ensure patient safety."
