Woburn Mayor Urges Caution As Temperatures Soar
Mayor Scott Galvin called for "commonsense precautions" as the region braces for another heat wave.
WOBURN, MA — Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin called for caution on Thursday amid high temperatures at the beginning of what is forecast to be another heat wave across the region.
Temperatures are predicted to linger above 90 degrees through the weekend, after already pushing toward 100 degrees on Thursday. Heat index temperatures were expected to reach 104 degrees on Thursday afternoon, according to Accuweather.
“It’s important for everyone to take some commonsense precautions and always check on your senior neighbors who may live alone or others who have health issues affected by the heat, and, of course, young children,” Galvin said in a statement.

High humidity is piling on top of scorching temperatures this week, prompting similar warnings and guidelines throughout Massachusetts.
National Weather Service announced earlier this week that a heat advisory would take effect on Thursday morning at 11 a.m.

Forecasters then said around 7 a.m. on Thursday that they might extend the advisory through the weekend.
State officials at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, meanwhile, are offering tips to stay safe during extreme heat. Among those, individuals should ensure that they stay hydrated while avoiding strenuous activity if possible.
Heat waves have been linked to spikes in emergency calls in the past. Recently, Boston Emergency Medical Services noted a 20% increase over average daily calls between July 19 and July 25 of this year while high temperatures gripped the region.
Boston EMS responded to at least 80 directly heat-related calls during that span, according to the agency.
