80 Affordable Housing Units Coming To Former Worcester Boys Club Site
A housing project aimed at those 55 and older is under construction.
WORCESTER, MA — A developer is building 80 affordable housing units designated for those 55 years and older.
WinnCompanies is building the $51-million project on the historic Worcester Boys Club property.
The development will preserve and renovate an existing 94-year-old building, which will be home to 16 units and community spaces. The remaining apartments will be in a new five-story building, according to a statement from the developer.

Sixty-eight of the apartments will be leased to households earning up to 60% of area median income and 12 units will be available to those earning up to 30% of the median income.
Eleven of the apartments will be set aside as housing for residents with disabilities.
The Worcester Greater Regional Chamber of Commerce noted that a housing study from 2019 showed a "demand for housing at diverse price points in walkable neighborhoods."
"This is yet another step in Worcester's ongoing commitment to expanding affordable housing options and revitalizing historic neighborhoods through thoughtful development and community partnership," the Chamber wrote in a Facebook post.
It's anticipated that the project will be completed in early 2026.
