WORCESTER, MA — The first mayoral debate of Worcester's 2023 municipal elections will happen live Monday.

Six-term incumbent Mayor Joseph Petty is being challenged this year by At-large councilors Khrystian King and Donna Colorio, Human Rights Commission member Guillermo Creamer and local activist Bill Coleman — who holds the record for mayoral runs at 12 since the early 1990s.

GBH will broadcast Monday's debate live from the station's Federal Street bureau on its website and YouTube. The debate will be moderated by Worcester GBH reporter Sam Turken and starts at 6 p.m.

A second forum between the five mayoral candidates is set for Oct. 25 hosted by the Worcester Regional Research Bureau as part of a series. Those forums are not being broadcast live as they happen.

Worcester hasn't had a mayoral race with five candidates since 2005, when former lieutenant governor Tim Murray, former councilors Konnie Lukes and Juan Gomez, William McCarthy and Coleman. Murray, the incumbent, won the seat that year.
