Indian Lake In Worcester Closing For Weed Treatment
Local residents should plan to avoid Indian Lake for most of the weekend due to the herbicide application.

WORCESTER, MA — If you're planning any aquatic activities this weekend, leave Indian Lake out.
The lake north of downtown Worcester closed Friday for an herbicide treatment. The herbicide — called diquat dibromide, or Tribune — doesn't necessarily pose a risk to humans and pets, but needs to be left undisturbed to work.
"We advise all persons to stay out of the water, discontinue boat use and fishing, and keep their pets out of the water," the city said in an advisory.

The lake will likely reopen to activities like boating and fishing by Sunday.
Worcester is treating the lake to kill thin leafed pondweed, a dense aquatic plant that chokes out other species and makes it hard for boaters and swimmers to use the lake.
