Liquidation sales are popping up at Sears and Kmart stores across the country, signaling that more closures may be on the way for the struggling retail brands.

USA Today reported the Kmart in Holyoke is the next to close. While a company spokesperson would not confirm, that would leave just five Kmart locations.

The Holyoke closure is in addition to the 96 stores that parent company Transformco said in November would close by this month — including two Kmarts in Acton and Billerica and two Sears in Auburn and Leominster. USA Today reports it found liquidation sales slated to continue into March and April at dozens of new stores throughout the nation.

Although a company spokesman did not confirm with USA Today the list of new stores expected to close, the publication named 28 Sears and 14 Kmart locations currently holding liquidation sales. Transformco has confirmed some of the closings to other media outlets, USA Today said.

Following February's closures and the potential Holyoke closure, there will be only be one Kmart remaining in Massachusetts — in Hyannis.
