Millbury Fire Intentionally Set; Reward To Find Arsonist

Investigators are asking the public's help to find out who set a building on fire in Millbury.

MILLBURY, MA—Officials have determined that a fire that erupted at a commercial building on Saturday night was arson, and investigators are asking the public's help in finding the person or people who set it.

At 10:58 p.m., Millbury firefighters responded to the building at 9 Railroad Ave., with the first responders finding a well-involved fire, causing a second alarm to be struck. That brought Sutton, Grafton, Auburn and Northbridge to the scene with Upton and Oxford covering the Millbury stations.

The majority of the rear building was destroyed but the front portion of the building was saved, but with smoke and water damage.

On Sunday, State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Millbury Fire Chief Richard P. Hamilton and Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy determined that the fire was intentionally set.

Anyone with information, anyone who saw or heard anything in the area about 10 p.m. is asked to confidentially call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229. The commercial building houses several business including the Phoenix Exposition Services but is commonly referred to as “the old NENSCO site.”

The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program that provides rewards of UP TO $5,000 for information that helps to solve the case. The program is funded by the property and casualty insurance companies of Massachusetts.
