WORCESTER, MA—A man is facing several charges after running away during a traffic stop and then biting the officer who tried to arrest him.

Around 1:15 p.m. on June 12, an officer on patrol downtown near Green Street spotted a brown Ford Escape stopped at a red light under the bridge. The officer recognized the operator of the Ford, Brandon Carrion, 19, Hooper Street, and knew that Carrion did not have a valid driver’s license.

The officer pulled Carrion over on Church Street, walked up to the car and saw Carrion reach across the passenger's side. Carrion climbed out of the passenger's window and started to run away, said police. The officer caught up to him while yelling to stop, and Carrion pulled away and tried to escape.

While on the ground, Carrion grabbed the officer’s right forearm and bit it with so much force that the teeth broke the skin, said police. As the officer pulled his arm out of Carrion’s mouth, Carrion was able to get up and continued running towards Front Street, disturbing lots of people downtown along the way. Carrion was eventually apprehended by an officer working a detail at Union Station on the second floor of the Union Station parking garage.

Carrion was placed under arrest and his vehicle was towed. He is charged with Operating with a Suspended License, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. Carrion will be arraigned in Worcester District Court. The officer was transported to the hospital.
