Quinsigamond Community College Gets $240K To Help Formerly Incarcerated Jobseekers

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester school was awarded state funding to help formerly incarcerated individuals reenter the workforce.

Quinsigamond Community College was awarded $240,000 as part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration's $2.2 million in Re-entry Workforce Development Demonstration grants. The school, which has received this grant since 2022, partners with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office in its training program focused on the culinary and hospitality industries.

This year's program will help 20 participants, and graduates are placed in food preparation roles through organizations, like Snapchef, Latin American Health Alliance - Hector Reyes House and Massachusetts Restaurant Association.

The program also focuses on healthy eating and cooking and allows participants to earn industry-recognized credentials.

“This type of partnership helps these individuals build a sustainable future,” said Dr. Luis G. Pedraja, QCC's President. “This program offers more than job training; it creates opportunities for returning citizens to thrive and contribute to their communities.”
