Worcester City Council, School Committee Standing Committees Assigned
City officials were officially sworn in on Friday.
WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester City Council was officially sworn in on Friday, and now the standing committees for the new term have been assigned.
The City Council is made up of 11 councilors, including incumbents Mayor Joseph Petty, Khrystian E. King, Kathleen M. Toomey, and Morris A. Bergman, as well as Gary Rosen, Satya B. Mitra, Tony Economou, Robert Bilotta, John P. Fresolo, Luis A. Ojeda and Jose A. Rivera.

The Economic Development Standing Committee considers issues related to the economy, neighborhoods, housing, workforce development, and zoning, among other items.

The Municipal and Legislative Operations Standing Committee considers matters related to municipal operations and procedures. It handles human resources, employee health care, workers' compensation, and unemployment, among other matters. It also initiates and reviews proposals to amend the city council's rules.

The Public Health and Human Services Standing Committee considers matters related to public health, the elderly, veterans' services, human rights, the equality of women, youth services, public housing, the disabled, and Community Development Block Grant funding.

The Operations and Governance Standing Committee provides oversight of the district’s operational systems, facilities, and governance structure.
