WORCESTER, MA — A melee at a Greendale-area baseball field Monday culminated in a Worcester officer using a Taser to stop a 17-year-old who wanted to start a fight, the department reported.

Police went to Kendrick Field along Brooks Street around 7:30 p.m. Monday after a report of a fight at a baseball game. The situation had cleared by the time police arrived, but the fight left at least one person injured.

"The brawl involved players and family members. One adult male sustained injuries after being tackled to the ground. The male was evaluated by paramedics at the scene. His injuries are considered minor," police said in a news release.

However, as police were talking to people still at the field, one group began to "aggressively walk toward" another group, and a Worcester officer tried to keep them separated. The department reported that a 17-year-old kept trying to get around the officer to fight people in another group, and eventually escaped the officer's grasp.

"The officer perceived that the teen was about to run past him to assault the group. Therefore, the officer deployed his taser to stop the impending assault," police said in a news release.

After he was stunned, police arrested the teen on two counts of assault and battery, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. A 22-yearold and a 45-year-old will also be charged with assault in connection to the fight, police said.

Kendrick Field is home to several baseball fields, and the Joe Schwarz Little League organization. The league posted several reminders on its Facebook page Monday night about sportsmanship and the roles of parents and adult volunteers in the league.
